Many people have been on a diet whether it's Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or your personally made diet it happens. Here are some myths about dieting:
1. Eliminating wheat will make you lose weight: Carbs can actually aid in weight loss but it has to be the right type of carbs. I'm talking about the whole grains like whole wheat pasta, oats, and fruits. These foods have fiber which keeps you fuller longer and helps you get through the day.
2. Don't eat after a certain time at night: It doesn't matter what time you stop eating it matters the calorie intake of the foods your consuming. But that doesn't mean to have your biggest meal at night. Nutritionists suggest to eat more during the day when you need the energy and save the 100-150 calorie snacks for night time when craving strikes.
3. You have to give all the snacks that you crave like sweets and salty goodness: This isn't true you don't want to deprive yourself but you have to have these treats every once in awhile or you'll go crazy. It's said by have little indulgences within a healthy diet can curb binges and help weight loss.
4. Skipping meals will help you lose weight faster: In high school my friend would skip meals because she wanted to lose weight for prom but while she was working she fainted. I would like to say that this made her change but it didn't. She kept doing it for her first year in college but now she eats regularly.
People assume that by not consuming calories it will lead to pounds coming off but it's the opposite your metabolism slows down and your body holds onto fat.
5. When you exercise you can eat whatever you want: Working out and then eating fast food does not lead to weight loss. I know you may think that all that running justifies those french fries but if you want to lose weight you have watch your calorie intake even if you exercise daily.
6. Can eat as much healthy foods as you want because it's healthy: In your mind you're probably thinking since this is healthy I can eat as much as I want. This is also a myth healthy foods like fruit, whole grains, and healthy fats have calories just like all other foods. Just because there healthy doesn't mean it's a free for all you have to portion these foods too so don't go crazy!
7. Loading salads with toppings: You are taking something that is low in calories, the lettuce and putting unnecessary calories in it to make it a unhealthy meal. So those nuts, croutons, cheese, and your dressing adds up to high calorie meal you were trying to avoid in the first place.
8. Eating "light foods": These foods may seem harmless but they are not. Even though they are low calorie they are packed with sodium, sugars, and chemical sweeteners. It's better to get the real thing instead of going for the light options because the more natural ingredients the better.
Happy Dieting!! I hope these tips will help you!
